About Me
WHO I AM
Thank you for your interest in getting to know me better. My name is Pradnya Patil, and I am an Indian American, wife, mother of two wonderful children, (Ridhi and Apoorv) a scientist turned technologist currently working at Intel, a volunteer at the Washington County Budget Committee, and your neighborhood leader.
Having lived in the U.S. for over 20 years, and in Washington county for more than 11 years, I have witnessed firsthand the many challenges our community has faced—and overcome. However, we now find ourselves in one of the most challenging periods in our history, and I believe this is a pivotal moment to bring fresh, focused leadership to every aspect of our community.
WHY THPRD
My relationship with THPRD started with taking my daughter to the Beaverton facility for social activities and sports. At the aquatics center both my kids had their early swim lessons and both went on to become excellent swimmers with my son eventually swimming at state level. My daughter, Ridhi, currently works at THPRD and has continued volunteering throughout her high school. From family pictures at the Jenkins estate to long walks along the nature trails of Rock creek and Kaiser woods, THPRD has been part of our life for as long as we have lived here. And for my furry baby, the PCC dog park has been a blessing.
We, like many other families have benefited from these facilities for years and as a volunteer at the THPRD Parks and Facilities Advisory committee, I have seen that community voices matter.
I want to take this responsibility to the next level by running for the Board of Director seat at THPRD Position 1.
Tualatin Hills Parks and Recreation district (THPRD) spans over 50 miles serving diverse Beaverton residents with high quality parks and facilities. Offerings include thousands of recreational classes, 117 parks, nearly 70 miles of trails, and 162 natural areas. The THPRD board of directors are elected officials responsible for representing public interest. There are five members who serve on this board with each having a 4-year term. Board members set District policy and oversee the annual budget of more than $108 million.
I am looking forward to earning your support in getting me elected to this seat.
Priorities
Education
Our schools are encountering major challenges that impact our children and increase stress for parents and communities. THPRD has a crucial role to play as it augments our local schools to support our kids, to not just grow but also thrive. I intend to promote THPRD's partnership with our local schools and leverage THPRD set up to amplify holistic learning experience for our kids.
Health and wellbeing
Natural spaces play a vital role alleviating stress and encouraging physical activity. THPRD offers excellent opportunities to unite communities, nurture a sense of belonging, and strengthen social connections that are crucial for mental well-being. My aim is to maintain and enhance our facilities, making them inviting to a broad array of communities through outreach and conservation initiatives.
Economic Growth
Oregon has been a hub for startups and small businesses yet recent trends show a decrease in these enterprises. We can shift this trend by enhancing our community offerings to draw in new businesses and talent. By promoting THPRD initiatives and highlighting our community activities, we can create an inviting space for businesses that will invigorate our economy. I plan to ensure our investments in THPRD continue to be prosperous for our community.
